The Village of Union City Ohio
Web Site Additions/Changes
We Have Observed

We have been watching the build of The Village of Union City Ohio Website.  We know the people involved and what they are doing is a phenomenal piece of work to get The Village of Union City Ohio Official Government Website up-to-date and responsive to your needs as well as those who may be interested in relocating to the Union City area.  What we plan to do with this Page on OUR WEBSITE is to let you know about all the NEW items we find on the NEW website for The Village of Union City Ohio.

We are doing the same with The City of Union City Indiana on another page similar to this one.  Click here.

OVER ALL VIEW

The Home Page is all about LINKS to other pages.  Most organizations struggle with the concept because, as a designer, we're taught that the home page is like the cover of a book and basically is like the Introduction to what the book is about.  This version of a home page is refreshing in some respects because it is a gigantic Index with links to other pages.

  • Three column setup

  • The left column sports a menu of important pages, the weather for some colder area, a form for email updates (we think), and a featured gallery

  • The middle column sports a list of headers for another set of indexes/links, the Mayor's Corner which we think might be the beginnings of a blog or remain stagnant forever, latest news, archives of the Mayor's Corner, archives of the latest news

  • The third column has a search window at the very top of the page, a NOTICES box with links to other Notices which we'll touch on later, An image Notice about one of the upcoming events in the area, another bulletin board like notice and a link to other bulletin board like notices

Bottom of the Page

The footer actually will display on every page as a stationery section. That way when it needs to have changes, it can be done to only one intermediate page and will display everywhere it is called to be, as it is now

  • There are four columns. The first column is a brief statement which tells you about where the Village is located

  • The second column is a listing of upcoming Events

  • The third column is a listing of forms and documents which are not really forms. You'll have to print them if you want to use them to send information to the Village. You might have to purchase a printer to get this done if you don't own one

  • The fourth column is a quick way to contact the Village. The Fax number is NOT real

  • Under the four columns in the center is an evelope which is linked to ucotax@gmail.com (the tax department) and for most all secure browsers, it won't do anything if you click on it; plus, since it is going to a public email server rather than a secured government email server, you most likely would prefer to not communicate that way with the Village Tax Department. Call them instead

  • The next symbol is the Village Facebook link and remember that once you leave the Village website you'll be on another website with a different privacy policy and set of rules

  • To the far right is an orange background with an arrow like symbol pointing up. That's so you can go to the top of the entire page. Many websites use that so you can get back to the top of the Page easily. Some websites have one that floats like the one we use and you can be anywhere on the page and click or tap it and go straight to the top. The Village page isn't that sophistigated. Maybe in the future

  • Under the UP arrow are two more links. The first one is to the Home page ONLY. So if you are on any other page and you get lost, scroll all the way to the bottom of that page and click on the Home link

  • The next link is the Villages Privcy Policy. It links to the Privacy Page which is still under construction as well as the addition of the legalize which the Vilages attorney is preparing from what we've been told. One caveat, of course and it will soon be stated, is that any link you click on including email links, then all bets are off because their policy becomes null and void on other websites and servers for communication. One statement on the page mentions something like techy stuff so we looked it up and this is what it says: "Gravatar - Globally Recognized Avatars https://gravatar.com Your Gravatar is an image and public profile that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things like comment or post on a blog". Notice it says PUBLIC PROFILE? However, it's a work in process and that may be changed in the future to something more secure
